The pipeline and the right-of-way are presented in almost all the Brazilian states, crossing regions with a lot of morphologic and geologic special sites, hydrologic special conditions, biological diversity, cities and land use.

To guarantee the integrity of diverse involved environments, preventing and minimizing potential impacts to the environment, human safety, ESTEIO was contracted to develop a pioneer Environmental Survey in 5.085 km of pipeline right-of-ways.

Data Collection

ESTEIO collected a plenty of information as basic data, environment cadaster information coming from field collection to be integrated in a GIS – Geographic Information System.

Basic Data

The basic data consisted of existing maps GIS integration as thematic maps of geology, conservation units, geopolitical borders – States and municipal districts – and rivers, lakes and another hydrological information along the pipeline right-of-way.

Field Cadaster

The field cadaster was developed along the pipeline right-of-way in special sites previously classified as environmental interest and identified in aerial photos at 1:8.000 scale. These places were described in a specific form and it was taken several terrestrial photos too.

The field forms and terrestrial photos were integrated in A GIS database and the regions were located in the aerial photos for a future positioning maps of Environmental Interest Point.

Cartography

Cartographic was used as support and other aerial survey products. Orthophotos (1:1.000) were used for detail mapping. Photo mosaics and 1:30.000 aerial photos were used for regional mappings and to update of hydrological features and road accesses.
Another information were collected at city hall and other public agencies of the cities whose the pipeline right-of-ways are crossing, as following:

Localization of points of water supply;

Localization of conservation units;

Addresses and telephones of agencies working in emergency issues (hospitals, civil defense, fire departments and others).

Results

The final products (databases of field survey and GIS with thematic maps) allow right-of-way management, sensitivity maps making and environmental vulnerability as an integrated method.

In case of pipeline accidents, it allows a high integrated approach, applying a more appropriate logistics to decrease the attendance time the purpose of best protecting and preserving the whole involved environment, minimizing environmental impacts

The main products and activities developed in this service were:

Environmental interest regions in the pipeline right-of-ways;

Analysis and collection of environment parameters in each point of interest;

Terrestrial photos of environment points;

Environment Database;

Update of existing cartography;

Environment GIS for management of information and support of decision;

Orthophotos with environment points positioned;

Environment Vulnerability maps.

[IMAGEM_CAROUSEL] Oil and Gas are the main products distributed by a pipeline network.
