In 1997, ESTEIO performed one of the greatest Geodetic Network and Mines Location Works ever performed by a private company in Argentina called Subred Geodesica Minera y Reposicion de Linderos de Minas Concedidas. This work is part of the new structure planned for the Argentine Mining System, mainly on fitting all the mines to a single geodetic system, in order to attract new investments, national and foreign. ESTEIO performed the following works:

Technical Features of the Project:

GPS Geodetic Network

The basic planning was a Geodetic Points Network connected to the National Geodetic Network (POSGAR 94) for the establishment of 60 points distributed over the 4 provinces.

The medium error per vector among the points must not be superior to 0.05 m + D x 10-6 (D=distance in meters). This accuracy was reached obeying the following procedures:

*** POSGAR Geodetic Network is a 127 ground points network that covers all the country, which coordinates are referred to WGS-84 ellipsoid.

Location of Mines

The great number of topographic surveys performed, added to the huge difficulty of access is an important differential to this project. For the location of the mines were used many materials such as: existent plans, GPS navigator receivers and topographic plans. The aid of experienced trackers of each land was very important because many of the mines were dated of early 1900´s.

Transportation and Resources

Several vehicles were used in this unique project, such as helicopters, 4WD trucks, 4W motorcycles for salt mines and mountains, besides the traditional and effective animal transportation.

Other resources were also important for the success of this project, among them we mention satellite phones, BLU radios, GPS navigation receivers, altimeters and laptops.
