ESTEIO has worked with several technologies to support PETROBRAS Co. in the implantation of PEGASO Project (Projects of Environmental Management and Operational Safety). Since then, almost 5,000 Km of right−of−way were surveyed in many regions of Brazil.

The input of innumerable information in an unique system with constant updates provides agility to the management processes, development, accompaniment and also in the support for prevention of accidents. Few years ago, accidents represented enormous damages to PETROBRAS and environment.

Working Area

PEGASO represented the execution of activities in almost the whole country. Specifically considering the areas South, Southeast and Northeast, besides areas of interest in the state of São Paulo, including an extension until Brasília, with approximately 1. 000 km.

Aerial Survey

An color aerial survey was performed at 1: 8. 000 and 1: 30.000 scales. Digital photo mosaics were derived from these flights with almost 9. 000 km² of images of 1: 8. 000 scale and 34. 500 km² of images of 1: 30.000.scale.

DTM (Digital Terrain Model)

Two different processes were used to obtain a DTM: conventional photogrammetric stereoplotting and Airborne Laser Scanning using ALTM − Airborne Laser Terrain Mapper. DTM was used to provide a model points to get ortophotos images. These two process were decisive for conclusion of the works in the right timeline.

1:1.000 Scale Ortophotos

1:1.000 scale orthophotos were derived of 1:8.000 aerial survey after predecessors activities as ground survey, aerial triangulation and DTM. The images had a 1. 000 m extension separated in sheet considering PETROBRAS standards. More than 2. 000 orthophotos were produced for many regions of interest.

Map And Profile

The pipeline right−of−way level was represented in a longitudinal profile, with integration of spot information for use in future controls.

The longitudinal profile and orthophoptos images were presented in sheets and completed with vector features of field survey and another info coming from “As Built” drawings supplied by PETROBRAS.

Scanned Drawings And Paperwork

20,000 drawings and paperwork units (E format) were scanned and saved as TIFF files. After a image treatment, they were saved in PDF format to integrate GIS developed by ESTEIO.

About 7,500 DWG drawings were scanned and joined with other ones supplied by PETROBRAS. They were integrated to image and profile sheet generated by ESTEO with the possibility of future updates in accordance with PETROBRAS needs.

Technical Cadaster

Another activity in this process was the technical cadaster of almost 9,000 properties reached by pipelines right−of−way. These information of technical cadaster were put in table form and compared with almost 18, 000 documents collected in field. Later, they were treated in office to create a specific database.

Ground Control

Besides of photogrammetric support to mapping, it was created a geodetic network formed by 41 landmarks, some of them defined previously by PETROBRAS. This network is compatible with IBGE High Accuracy Geodetic Network (IBGE − Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistic) forming a high precision network that will be used to future services and helping to locate a new pipeline.

Development Team

They were used 15,000 hours of professionals to the development of PEGASO GIS (cartographers, IT experts and programming people) besides other 25,000 hours of another technician (CAD techs and programming assistant). They worked in an integrated manner as an unique team with an unique aim: PEGASO GIS. These people was denominated “PEGASO Development Team” working under the direct supervision of PETROBRAS.

Interferences

Over PEGASO products, it was accomplished a special cadaster cadaster of specific sites with potential interference along the pipelines right−of−way. This activity consisted in identifying situations where it is necessary a intervention of PETROBRAS for a better control of occupations in areas of influence of pipelines right−of−way. The result of this special cadaster was indications of changes of pipeline routes and the suggestion of modifications in the technical characteristics.
