ESTEIO Engenharia e Aerolevantamentos S.A. presents here a multitemporal analysis of the urban growth of the city of Curitiba, through aerial images from 1952, 1980, 1997, 2009 and 2011.
Barigui Park, located between the Bigorrilho and Cascatinha neighborhoods, is one of the main green areas in Curitiba, covering an area of 1.4 million square meters. Created in 1972, with the objectives of containing flooding and preserving the local flora and fauna, it is today one of the most frequented places by residents of Curitiba seeking a better quality of life through contact with nature and sports activities, as well as being one of the city's main tourist attractions.
In the 1930s, in the Bacacheri neighborhood, the first military aviation airbase in Curitiba emerged. Due to its wide use, in 1980 it came to be called Bacacheri Airport. Even today, it is a national reference as an Aircraft and Helicopter Maintenance Center and in the training of new pilots, flight attendants and aviation mechanics.
Inaugurated in 1899, with the presence of Governor Santos Andrade and the General Commander of the District, the Prado (racecourse) was a prominent place in Curitiba for over fifty years. With approximately 292,726 square meters, the Guabirotuba Hippodrome was more than a horse racing track — it was a meeting place for the city's illustrious figures.
Only in 1958, the Guabirotuba Hippodrome moved to the Tarumã neighborhood, where it is now called the Tarumã Hippodrome. As soon as the Hippodrome was relocated, the site was occupied for the construction of the Pontifical Catholic University of Paraná.
Built in 1961 on an area of 500,000 square meters in the Jardim das Américas neighborhood, the Polytechnic Center of the Federal University of Paraná emerged during a phase of expansion for the University.
