Old IPLANRIO – Municipal Company of Computer Science and Planning, now IPP – Municipal Institute of Urban Planning Pereira Passos, hired global services of Digital Mapping of a total of 700 km² in urban areas and 26 km² in areas of slums.
ESTEIO worked in Digital Mapping of 220 km² of neighborhoods of Rio de Janeiro Municipality and 13 km² of areas where live low income population.
These services originated from an Aerial Survey at 1:8.000 scale for urban areas mapping and a 1:4.000 scale to map the slums areas.
The low flight (1:4000) was performed due the complexity of photogrammetric features interpretation and extraction in the area of slums where buildings and road system does not follow any pattern.
The main features were extracted from aerial models by analytical and analog stereoplotting. The aerial photos covered areas of neighborhoods of Rio de Janeiro city.
Later, these aerial models digital files were joined and again separated in Cartographic sheets as final products.
As supplementary work of mapping, a survey was performed to obtain the identification number of buildings to be part of a future GIS database.
